Commonly Asked Pet Health Insurance Questions

Pet Health Insurance is still relatively new, we here at PetPartners, provider of the AKC Pet Healthcare Plan often receive questions on how our plans work. We have compiled a list of commonly asked questions to help consumers better understand the AKC Pet Healthcare Plans.

How do the plans work?
The AKC Pet Healthcare Plans are all reimbursements plans, meaning you visit the veterinarian of your choice and pay your veterinarian directly. Upon completion of your visit to the vet’s office, have your veterinarian prepare and sign the claim form. You then submit it in for reimbursement along with your itemized invoice. The AKC Pet Healthcare Plan reimburses you directly for all claims.

What are the differences in your plans?
The major differences are the levels of coverage starting at Accident only coverage moving to Accident and Illness coverage and finally ending with Accident, Illness and Wellness coverage.

What is Wellness coverage?
Wellness coverage is preventive care for your dog such as; flea and tick control, heartworm test and medication, an annual exam, shots/boosters and dental cleaning.

Do you have any waiting periods?
We offer one waiting period on all of our plans, which is a 30-day wait on Illness coverage. The good news is that as long as you keep continuous coverage with us, you will never have to satisfy this waiting period again.

Do you offer any discounts?
We offer a 5% discount on multiple pets as long as they live in the same house. The 5% discount is applied to each plan. For example, if you insure a dog and cat, the 5% is applied to both policies.

What is not covered?
How do I pay my Deductible and Co-Insurance?
Your deductible and co-insurance are deducted from the claim reimbursement. For example, if you submit a claim for $100.00 and the deductible is $25.00 and co-insurance is 20%, the amount you should receive back is $60.00 (assuming everything in the claim is eligible for coverage).

Any condition that existed prior to the start of your insurance policy or during any lapse in coverage is considered pre-existing and will not be eligible for coverage.
